The effect of COVID-19 and response measures on health, economic and social wellbeing of population in Health and Demographic Surveillance (HDSS) Sites in Ethiopia. The main goal of the project is to generate UpToDate information by assessing the effect of COVID-19 and response measures on the health, economic and social well-being of rural and urban communities residing in Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) sites that have been operating for 10-30 years located in three regions in Ethiopia.
• Grant, Bill & Melinda Gates Role: Co-PI Muhe L (PI) 2020-2021 Determination of cause of death of preterm and term infants at community level using MITS conducted by non-pathologists through a process of task shifting/task sharing. The main goal of the study will be to evaluate the diagnostic capability of MITS in identification of cause of death in neonates. It will also assess sampling yield and draw up adequacy criteria for each sampled organ, assess the sampling yield of samples collected by nurses through a process called 'task shifting'.
